Imagine it’s an early weekday morning at the Church. While you might think the education wing would be empty and quiet; it is actually bustling, with activity and the sounds of laughter, from children attending Christ the King Lutheran Preschool.
There is a well-known saying in Early Education, “Childhood is a journey, not a race.” Children have so much to learn before they tackle the world on their own and for many; their formal education begins with preschool. Christ the King Lutheran Preschool serves as a wonderful outreach ministry of the Church and has been educating and guiding little minds since 2000. Each year, we see between 60-75 kids. Over the last 17 years, our Preschool has developed a wonderful reputation in the community amongst parents, the Forsyth County Schools Preschool Department, and also the elementary schools where our students attend after they graduate.
Our purpose is to provide a quality social and educational experience in a safe and loving Christian environment. We use a play based curriculum to educate the whole child. That means we focus on the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, cognitive and spiritual development of each student.
This is easier written than done. It takes a lot of people to make the school days what they are. The school operates as a separate non-profit organization and day to day operations are handled by the staff of the Preschool, which includes the Director and 14 teachers, currently. A Board of Directors, comprised of members of the Church, oversees the Preschool’s policies and direction. The Board Members are as follows: Ryan Boylan- Chairperson, Martha Lappe-Secretary, Pastor Erik Allen, Eric Wintersteen, Sally Campbell, Dottie Culver, and Jeanne Matthews. When you see these folks, thank them for their time and service to the Preschool.
The preschool is always looking for substitute teachers as well as volunteers who would be interested in helping with special projects (like “kids in the kitchen”), events (such as our Field Day) or reading to the kids. If you would like to learn more about our preschool or get involved, reach out to the Preschool Director, Jakima McCall at 678-513-4338 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
