Outreach Ministry 2017-08-04T18:32:48+00:00

The Outreach Ministry mission is to help and support those in need in our community. Outreach provides financial assistance to individuals and supports community organizations involved in providing food, clothing, shelter to those in our community in need, rehabilitation to wounded veterans and human trafficking victims, and Christmas gifts to needy children.

Outreach Ministry sponsors many other community programs and projects throughout the year with numerous opportunities for congregational member involvement such as:

  • Phone hotline for individual family needs
  • Food and volunteer support for Forsyth County’s “The Place”
  • St. Patrick’s Day Irish Dinner and Auction to support local community needs
  • Annual Yard Sale – Benefiting a local community outreach program
  • Team River Runners – Supports returning veterans who have sustained physical and mental injuries by providing them confidence-building activities through river kayaking.
  • Angel Tree – Providing Christmas gifts for community under-privileged children and families
  • Disaster relief teams when needed
  • Initiative to end Minor Domestic Human Trafficking
  • Support the Family Promise program of Forsyth County that provides temporary housing for homeless families.

The Outreach Team is working together with other congregations in Forsyth County in collecting non-perishable foods and canned goods to replenish the food pantry in Forsyth County’s local aide agency – THE PLACE. They presently serve over 300 families each month with their food pantry.

You can be a part of this effort by providing needed items. There is a designated bin by the Fellowship Hall to place your donations. A representative from THE PLACE will pick up the food bi-weekly. The is a great way to involve the whole family in a much needed effort. Thanks for your support!

Here is what The Place needs:  Canned Soup, Canned Vegetables (except green beans), Canned Beans, Tuna Helper, Dry Pasta, Boxed Cereal, Canned Pasta (ravioli, etc.)

The Food for Thought Project is a community-based, ongoing, food collection program that helps supply LOCAL food banks on a continuing basis. The program was launched in 2011. Its participants are known as Bright Orange Bag People. YOU can become a Bright Orange Bag Person too!

How does it work?
A bright orange bag is delivered to participating contributors who are asked to buy one or more extra non-perishable food items on their weekly grocery trips and place them in the bag. About every 2 months, on a Saturday morning, a volunteer will pick up the bag from your doorstep and replace it with an empty bag. The food you have contributed will be delivered to our local food pantries.

How you can participate.
Participation is easy. Go to the website fftpinc.org and click on the tab “SIGN UP”. Complete and submit the online form. That’s all there is to it. A bright orange bag will be delivered to your home. You are now a Bright Orange Bag Person, helping to eradicate hunger in Forsyth County.  Thank You!
